Science Projects Competition and Workshop

Project Details | All Projects | All Activities

Science Project Competition and Science Workshop were held by 'Maitri' at Jarida Ashram School in Melghat from 24th to 27th September 2024. 4 tribal ashram schools namely Jarida, Doma, Raipur and Hatru participated in the competition and the number of contestants was more than 100.
The children made projects on topics like water management, solar, school safety, water purification, road safety, windmills, lights, volcanoes, lunar eclipses.

APO and another officer from tribal development department office were present for the prize distribution program.

After the competition, *electronics and carpentry workshops* were held at the ashram school for the next 3 days. Mr. Atul Yadav from Pune had come to Melghat for that. He planned various projects and carried necessary material for the workshop from Pune. Children were taught to make circuits using breadboard, PCB, different electronic components.
All handtools and power tools were introduced in Carpentary workshop. After that, using those tools, the children did hands-on in cutting, drilling, filing. They made name plate for the house, stand to hang clothes & other things.

Maitri's group of local activists in Melghat (Sonaji, Sanju, Parasram, Channu, Vilas, Nandlal -- working for primary education), local coordinators (Anil, Dilip, Babulal, Sakharam, Kunjylal), Maitri Coordinator Ram, volunteers from Pune (Sai, Saili, Sumit) and Maitri's coordinators from Pune (Omkar, Ashwini, Shobha), Tushar & Leenata from Office and many more all performed their responsibilities well and made the competition and workshop a success.
The hall decoration according to the theme with special effort by Sai and Saili was appreciated by all.

In these tribal ashram schools, there are many limitations for children to learn science and do actual experiments but the program showed that if given the opportunity, they can excel and learn new skills through hard work. NGOs are eager and able to provide them with such opportunities. Organizations and governments can come together to take this work to more schools, more children but it requires administrative will and planning.

Many people have given financial support for this, we are grateful to them. 🙏
