In Melghat, along with health, the condition of children's education was also critical. In 2011, the initiative '100 Days of School' was implemented to set the stage for a substantial work for education.
40 out-of-school children were guided for 100 consecutive days at the Maitri center in Chilati and brought back into the school stream.
After this 'Maitri' schools were started in 7 villages to supplement and assist the Zilla Parishad schools and even today. This school runs for primary school children for 2 hours before school every day through local Korku youths.
Children's reading and writing skills are developed through the use of various tools and games. Various arts such as painting, shearing, embroidery, embroidering, collage are given something to do every day. Every village has a bookcase where books of the children's interest are kept. Each child has a library card in which children learn to record books as they read them.
